Reactivity/

Aggression

What is it?

Why is my dog being aggressive on leash or towards visitors to the home?

Your dog may be reactive due to a number of reasons….like, for example, lack of socialization as a puppy, not knowing how to navigate this modern life, living in captivity, unmet needs, past trauma, YOU not having the right tools to help him navigate, trigger stacking, fear, stress, frustration, learned behavior patterns, etc.

Most dogs are reactive/aggressive to other dogs or humans on walks when restricted by a leash, behind a fence (barrier frustration), sitting at the window. Others are reactive when strangers enter the home.

These are all NORMAL emotional reactions to what is happening TO or AROUND the dog.

How well a dog handles these situations is entirely dependent on each dog’s individual 4 L.E.G.S.® ( = what strategies (Learning) the dog has adopted so far to help her cope, what kinds of conditions she has lived under in the past (physical + social Environment) and in the present, what we may have bred the dog for (Genetics) and whether or not he has an outlet for some of these natural behaviors, and last but not least what kind of SELF the dog comes with in his baggage: His unique personality quirks and likes/dislikes, age, sex, and status - plus the dog’s overall health and welfare, any disabilities, fear, anxiety, etc. they may be struggling with.

The Dog Talker provides you with a thorough, in-depth understanding of what is going on from your dog’s perspective - your dog’s WHY - through the Initial Consultation/LEGS Assessment.

This understanding helps us to start at POINT ZERO = A NEW UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR DOG - where we can begin anew in order to help you & your dog navigate life much better together.

Is it a Behavior Program you need?

STEP 1:

Determining factors:

  • Our Behavior Programs stand apart from our other services by the following:

    • You receive a customized Worksheet program with Resources, videos, Behavior Plan, Progress/Setbacks, etc. - shared on Google Drive + YOURS FOR LIFE!

    • WRITTEN homework after each session

    • You receive 20% discount on all subsequent services upon completion

  • Our Behavior Programs are more costly, due to all that is included, than our Welfare Packages and our subscription service TDT Dog Life Navigation club.

If you are on a strict budget right now, consider our TDT Dog Life Navigation monthly subscription service - where you pay per session and your initial investment is as low as $400-$452.50. You earn points every month and receive 15% discount on services after your initial investment.

If your budget is outside these means, consider getting started with an Initial Consultation/L.E.G.S.® Assessment (price on its own $250). Feel free to purchase a Follow-up session at any time.

STEP 2:

All our programs start with an Initial Consultation/L.E.G.S.® Assessment (2 hrs on Zoom)

  • Price on its own: $250 (unless bundling - see below)

  • Or purchase with a BUNDLE (see below) and save $55-$85

  • 10% off on ALL our services for rescues (adopted within 1 year)

In order to help you & your dog, we need to start by understanding your dog’s WHY (WHO he really is and WHY he does what he does).

We take a deep dive into understanding your dog’s 4 LEGS = his Learning, Environment, Genetics & Self.

This assessment will help us figure out which of his 4 LEGS may be malfunctioning and WHAT we can do to help you & your dog navigate life better together.

Bundles:

Purchase the initial consult + any program as a BUNDLE and SAVE $55-$85!!

Other options for help with behavior issues

If our Behavior Programs are outside your current budget, consider our Dog Welfare Package or our Canine Wellness Walks instead. It’s a more budget friendly option, even though it doesn’t come with quite the same perks as our Behavior Programs (hence the price difference). You may need to purchase 1 or more Follow-up sessions (but you get 15% discount on any subsequent service).

Your third, to some the most attractive option, is our TDT Club Subscription Service - which is definitely worth considering. You actually save a lot of money with this option. It works similar to a Payment plan but here you can enjoy the flexibility of being in charge of how much help you need. You only pay for what you need. Your first month does require a bigger investment (between $400-$463 typically) but from then on, you receive 15% discount on all Follow-up sessions and you earn 15 points every month, which means that for example every third month you only pay $150 for a follow-up session (normally, you will pay $212.50 with your 15% discount).

This option is a ‘PAY PER SESSION’ service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Success in any of our programs is entirely dependent on YOUR commitment and dedication to wanting to help your dog(s) and to doing your homework. If you follow my recommendations and instructions and you use the tools you are given, you can, in most cases, expect to see progress within 1-2 sessions.

Behavior is not static, and no two dogs are the same - so to continue to see progress, you have to be willing to keep practicing and working with your dog even after a program is completed.

At the end of our program, you will have a much better understanding of your dog’s WHY and HOW to continue to help him/her navigate tricky situations much better.

It does not mean your dog will ‘magically’ stop having emotions or stop reacting to things in his environment. It means YOU now can help him handle things BETTER.

Just remember, YOU also react to things 24/7. But you too can learn to handle things better.

Each case is different and depends on the severity of the issues we are working on, as well as your level of commitment. Most clients should be able to continue on their own after investing in a program, but in more severe cases, you might have to invest in follow-up sessions until you reach your goals.

Remember one thing: Success is ALWAYS dependent on YOUR level of commitment and willingness to learn and change YOUR behavior!!!

  • Working with me, Charleston’s first Licensed Family Dog Mediator®, you can be sure you & your dog are in the best, most qualified hands.

I have gone through extensive education and training in aggressive behavior in dogs and have the necessary knowledge and skills in applied ethology and Family Dog Mediation®, which is a step above and beyond dog training, to help you understand your dog better.

We work more with the human side of the equation, helping humans learn to change THEIR behavior and communication, rather than changing the dog’s behavior, which is not always necessary.

We put WELFARE FIRST ALWAYS - because without it, you cannot improve your dog’s life and behavior.

You will not find anything like our specialized programs anywhere else in Charleston.

The fact that we work exclusively with Resource Guarding and Reactivity means you get expertise, knowledge, and skills from us that go far beyond dog training.

    It’s that simple.

    1. Education & understanding

    2. Enhancing the human-canine bond through REAL, ORGANIC communication and relationship building.

    3. Enabling free choice and agency for our dogs in captivity

    4. Meeting our human and canine clients where they are.

    5. Innovative, practical solutions to common dog behavior problems

    6. Positive Reinforcement/FEAR FREE.

    7. NO commands. NO aversive/punitive methods. NO collars (shock/prong/choke, etc.)

    8. The only tool we sometimes use is a clicker (you will get one from us)
